In a meeting with associations of Catholic families, Pope Francis touched on the different needs families face, especially those in war zones, and the issue that the State often leaves these problems unanswered.
POPE FRANCIS
At this moment, and I will say especially European families, are living in a tragic and dramatic moment because of the war in Ukraine.
Pope Francis says that family policies should not be regarded as instruments of the power for the states, but they must be founded in the interest of the family itself. He asks European countries not only to encourage families, but also to be more creative and open to the needs of others.
POPE FRANCIS
Europe today is an aging Europe that is not generative; it is a Europe that cannot allow talk of sustainability and is increasingly struggling to be supportive.
States have a duty to eliminate obstacles to the generative nature of families and to recognize that families make up the common good that benefits society.
The Pope is also concerned about the easy access to pornography. He encourages families to fight against pornography before it does even more harm.
POPE FRANCIS
We speak about the plague of pornography. which has spread throughout the internet. It should be denounced as a permanent attack on the dignity of men and women. It should be denounced not only to protect children, which is an important task for the authorities and for all of us, but it's also important to declare pornography as a threat to public health.
Pope Francis' last meeting with these associations was five years ago. His current message encourages the family to focus on protecting their children and becoming the school of peace.
