Pope Francis invited a Ukrainian family to pray with him in the Roman Basilica of St. Mary Major in front of the same statue where Pope Benedict XV prayed for the end of World War I.
Oksana Boyko, the mother of the family, is a volunteer with the community of Santa Sofia, the Ukrainian Church in Rome. According to the Vatican, Pope Francis decided “to offer a sign of hope to the world that is suffering from the war in Ukraine and is deeply wounded by the violence of so many wars that are still going on.”
