Pope Francis attended the funeral of Cardinal Angelo Sodano in his wheelchair. St. Peter's Basilica was filled with people for the ceremony.
Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, presided over the funeral.
Together with the Holy Father, we are gathered around the altar of the Lord to pray and to give our final farewell to Cardinal Angelo Sodano.
During the homily, Cardinal Battista Re highlighted Cardinal Sodano's commitment to peace, something for which he worked tirelessly.
Among those present was Pope John Paul II's secretary, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz. He was one of the Curia members that worked closely with Cardinal Sodano.
Into Your hands, O most clement Father, we commend the spirit of our brother bishop, Cardinal Angelo.
Pope Francis remained seated throughout the ceremony in prayerful recollection.
