This Church is the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Rome.

A special Mass will be celebrated here to mark the Feast of Divine Mercy this Sunday.

This feast was instituted by Pope John Paul II in 2000.

Pope John Paul II wanted the Shrine of Mercy to be here in Rome precisely because people recognize that the world will forever need to be supported by prayer for the mercy of God. As Pope John Paul II said there is nothing man needs more than Divine Mercy—words that prove to be more relevant than ever.

The feast is celebrated every second Sunday of Easter and comes from the revelations St. Faustina Kowalska received in the early 1900s.

This year, Pope Francis will celebrate the Divine Mercy Mass in St. Peter's Basilica.

This year, there was a plan for Pope Francis to gather all of the missionaries of mercy here in Rome.

During the Holy Year of Mercy in 2017, the Pope appointed more than a thousand priests around the world as missionaries of mercy.

These priests are able to forgive all sins wherever they are and wherever the bishops ask for their help.

And so, after the great tribulation of the pandemic, this year for the Feast of Mercy, the Pope has summoned the missionaries of mercy from around the world and all the faithful to participate in this Feast.

In 2020, Pope Francis celebrated the Divine Mercy Mass at the Sanctuary, and it was only the second time he left the Vatican during the pandemic.

This year, the Pope is inviting the missionaries of mercy and all the faithful to live out this feast after two years of the pandemic.
