Rosalba Giugni is the president of Marevivo. For the past 35 years, the organization has launched campaigns to raise awareness about caring for the ocean and the environment.
Members of the organization recently wrote a letter to Pope Francis asking him to stop putting on displays like this one.

“Plastic flies. At first, that plastic can bring joy, or bring about a spiritual experience when white balloons are released at funerals or weddings. But we forget that the plastic flies away and eventually ends up somewhere on the planet, in rivers, the ocean or on land.”
Few people know that balloons pose the third highest risk to turtles, marine birds and seals. Many even die when they try to eat the balloons.
Rosalba Giugni turns to the Vatican for support, because, she says, “the loudest voice protecting the planet is the Pope's.”

“We see in nature the presence of God the Creator. From the smallest creature to the largest whale.”
It isn't the first time Rosalba Giugni appeals to the Vatican. In 2019, she succeeded in making it the first plastic-free state.

“What Pope Francis says is beautiful: that at first, man was the master. Now, man must be the guardian of nature.”
The Italian Association, “Marevivo,” has its headquarters in a very special place...
Operating from this boat, they aren't satisfied with protecting only the waters of Italy and the Vatican. They want to make a difference all over the world, starting with education, to teach children more sustainable habits from an early age.
