The new U.S. ambassador to the Holy See presented his letter of credentials to Pope Francis
Thank you so much for having me here today, thank you so much.
Former Indiana senator, Joe Donnelly, brought his family to the Vatican's Apostolic Palace for the ceremony, and offered gifts to the Pope.
Among them was a blanket depicting symbols of America's original peoples, and a crucifix with a personal meaning.
And this is from our home church, the Notre Dame basilica, this is the original pews, the wood.
So kind of you.
Thank you so much.
In return, the Pope gave him the significant texts of his pontificate.
This is a library.
I love to read.
He also gave rosaries to each member of his delegation, and a medal commemorating the ninth year of his pontificate.
Pope Francis then blessed them, before meeting privately with the new ambassador.
