POPE FRANCIS
Thank you for telling me this piece of news from today because I had not known about it.
War is always a cruelty, an inhuman thing that goes against the human spirit. I didn't say Christian spirit, but human spirit – the spirit of Cain that was said to be the spirit of war. I am willing to do everything that can be done and the Holy See, above all the diplomatic part, Cardinal Parolin, Monsignor Gallagher, are doing everything. But we cannot publish everything they do, for the sake of prudence and salvation. But we are at the limits of our work. Among the different opportunities, there are two possible trips.
One possible trip is that the president of Poland asked me to send Cardinal Krajewski to visit the Ukrainians who have been welcomed in Poland. He has already gone two times, bringing an ambulance, and he stayed there with them. But he will go again. He is willing to do it. Another trip that someone asked me about, and, honestly, I tell you that I have been thinking of going there to Ukraine.
I said the willingness has always been there – always. It's not that it was not there before. I am willing. The question goes like this, “We heard that you had thought about a trip to Ukraine.” and I said, “It's on the table.” There was a proposal that came up, but I don't know if it could be done. If it is convenient to do and if doing it will be a thing good to do it, if it convenient to do it, then I have to do it. It's all up in the air, you know?
Then, for some time, there was the idea to have a meeting with Patriarch Kirill – he is working on this, whether he thinks it is possible to do it in the Middle East. This is where things are at right now.
