As he has done each Sunday for the last month, Pope Francis harshly criticized the war in Ukraine. This time the Pope did not mince words either, calling it a full-on “invasion.”

POPE FRANCIS
More than a month has passed since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, since the beginning of this cruel and senseless war that, like any war, represents a defeat for everyone, for all of us. I read that since the beginning of the aggression against Ukraine, one out of every two children has been displaced from the country. This means destroying the future, causing dramatic trauma in the smallest and most innocent among us. This is the bestiality of war, a barbaric and sacrilegious act.

The Pope insisted that the road to peace does not entail increased military spending.

POPE FRANCIS
War cannot be something inevitable: we must not get used to war! Instead, we must convert today's outrage into tomorrow's commitment. Because, if we come out of this affair as we were before, we will all be guilty in some way. Faced with the danger of self-destruction, let humanity understand that the time has come to abolish war.

In this way, Pope Francis ended a week dedicated entirely to denouncing the atrocities of war and praying for peace.
