During the most difficult moments of the pandemic, the Congregation for Divine Worship gave very precise instructions on how to celebrate Holy Week. Now, it joins other countries in lessening these restrictions.
The Vatican announced that this year there will not be specific indications on how to celebrate Holy Week. It said that, due to the decreasing COVID cases and the experience of the Bishops' Conferences these past two years, listening to local authorities and avoiding unnecessary risks will be enough.
In its message, the Vatican also invites bishops to pray for government leaders and victims of war during religious celebrations. The Vatican even encourages them to add special intentions in light of the grave situation in Ukraine.
