He was one of the most beloved prelates of the Orthodox church, before being slandered and expelled from his community.

Now, the life of St. Nectarios of Aegina is coming to the silver screen, in a new movie, titled “Man of God.”

It shows how as an extremely promising bishop of Cairo, Nectarios' superiors were concerned that his popularity with the people posed a threat to their power, and decided to conspire against him.

Those around the patriarch were jealous of him because he was loved by the people, he was a people's priest, people's bishop, and they did not want a man like that to succeed.

You seem to be the real deal, no wonder they don't like you.

To expel the future saint from Egypt, his colleagues accused him of plotting to dethrone the sitting patriarch and take his power.

I cannot bear this much pain.

From being a promising bishop he was then sent away to become a humble priest in Greece, placed under extreme restrictions. There, Nectarious remained close to the people, eventually becoming one of the most renowned saints in Greece after his death from prostate cancer in 1920.

He is extremely well-known especially in Greece and Orthodox countries, because he has done numerous, I'm talking about thousands, of healings for cancer. He's known as a saint of cancer.

“Man of God” is a chance for people of all faiths to learn the story of a significant Orthodox saint, which shows that even when faced with persecution, humility and love always prevail.
