On Easter Sunday 2019, 269 people were killed in 6 suicide bombings in Sri Lanka. Three years later, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith is still searching for clarity.

CARD. MALCOLM RANJITH,
ARCHBISHOP OF COLOMBO, SRI LANKA
I am asking - our people have a right to know who did this to them and why was it done. That so many people are suffering as a result of this attack. I'm appealing to the international community to please insist with our authorities that a transparent and clear investigation should take place with regard to the Easter attacks because it has repercussions on the entire public life of our people as well as on the situation of peace and harmony in the world...

The cardinal appealed to the international community at an event organized by Aid to the Church in Need, which helps Christians in countries suffering persecution or discrimination.

At one point during the meeting, the Cardinal was visibly moved recounting stories of the families of the victims.

Since the end of the civil war in 2009, terrorist attacks against religious minorities have increased. And these bombings put a strain on the relationship between the different religious groups in Sri Lanka.
