A delegation of the European People's Party met with Pope Francis. They presented him with a candle with two flags, one of the European Union and one of the German region of Bavaria.
Bavaria is in southern Germany and Pope Benedict XVI is from there.
As Pope Francis studied philosophy and theology in Frankfurt, he speaks German. The Pope joked with Manfred Weber, the party leader, about German beer.
The European People's Party is the leading group in the European Parliament with 177 of the total 705 parliamentarians.
