At the Vatican, Pope Francis met with members of Anima per il sociale nei valori d'impresa, an Italian association promoting social values in business.

The Pope said that through past crises, like the financial crisis of 2008, are opportunities for business and political leaders to implement new practices that promote the common good, but that they are not always carried out.

POPE FRANCIS
'The current war in Ukraine show that those who govern the fates of peoples have not yet learned the lesson of the tragedies of the twentieth century.'

He then encouraged them to work towards developing ethical business practices so as to avoid future crises, like the climate crisis.

POPE FRANCIS
'If we want the future world to be inhabitable and worthy of humanity, it is necessary for the economy to be freer from the power of finance and more creative in seeking forms of production oriented towards an integral ecology.'

The association was founded in 2001, and works with businesses to promote sustainable social, economic, and environmental corporate practices.
