This meeting with the new Greek ambassador to the Holy See was the only event on the Pope's agenda for Friday.

Nevertheless, when their meeting concluded, the Pope paid a visit to the Russian Embassy near the Vatican.

It's the first time Pope Francis visits an ambassador. The Pope is attempting to mobilize his direct contacts with Vladimir Putin's political circles.

The Vatican reports that he was there for about 30 minutes to “express his concern because of the war.”

The Pope's nuncio in Kyiv is one of the few foreign diplomats who are still in Ukraine.

The Vatican is putting forth mediation efforts to help keep the situation from worsening even more.
