Catholics in western Ukraine mobilize to support country's refugees

For the second consecutive day, Ukrainians woke up to the sound of air sirens in cities throughout the country.

They've been instructed to seek refuge in places such as this subway station. 

Yet thousands are heading west, away from combat zones, and towards the city of Lviv near the Polish border, where Ukrainians are preparing to receive an influx of internally displaced persons.

'There are about 3,000 volunteers who are actively trying to place refugees and IDPs in 80 different locations.'

Iryna is a student at the Ukranian Catholic University in Lviv, which is mobilizing to play its part in resisting the Russian invasion.

'Our student government is working also to help our military forces, so there are some necessary things for them.'

The students say they are coordinating food donations for soldiers, and organizing themselves online to combat waves of misinformation being circulating by Russia.

Their city of under Lviv is not attack, but its residents remain on high alert, and are prepared for whatever may be coming next.

'I also have a backpack out there with everything that I need packed so I can zip it up and just go if I need to leave here.'

It remains unclear what lies ahead for Ukrainians, but they say they are determined to pitch in however they can to support their country.
