Pope Francis welcomed President Borut Pahor of Slovenia to the Vatican.

“Whenever I see a Slovenian, I think of Argentina.”

The President didn't waste any time inviting the Pope to his country.

“First of all, Your Holiness, I hope with my whole heart that you will be in Slovenia this year.”

He accompanied the invitation with a few gifts, including typical Slovenian sweet bread. The President also gave the Pope a collection of painted beehive panels, which are an important part of the history of Slovenian beekeeping, and a book about the relationship between bees and human beings.

Pope Francis, in turn, gave the President this year's message for peace, among other documents from his pontificate.

He also gave him a small mosaic made by young people at the Vatican.

“It's like an ode to work. Work as dignity.”

“Beautiful. May I?”

It was a friendly meeting that marked 30 years of diplomatic relations between Slovenia and the Holy See.

“May the Lord bless you.”

“It is a privilege as always. We are praying for you.”

“Thank you.”

After saying goodbye to the Pope, President Pahor spent some time speaking with Vatican officials, including the Secretary of State, Card. Pietro Parolin, to exchange views on different issues.
