At the end of his General Audience, Pope Francis asked for prayers to prevent war from breaking out in Ukraine.
POPE FRANCIS
'I invite you to pray for peace in Ukraine, and to do so often throughout the day: let us ask the Lord insistently that that land may see fraternity flourish and overcome wounds, fears and divisions.'
The Pope recalled the massive loss of life in Europe caused by World War II and the Holocaust, and asked that such devastation may never be repeated
POPE FRANCIS
'[Ukraine] is a suffering people; [in the past] they have suffered famine, they have suffered so much cruelty and deserve peace. May the prayers and invocations that are being raised to heaven today touch the minds and hearts of those responsible on earth, so that dialogue may prevail and the good of all be put before the interests of one side. Please, let there never be war.'
Pope Francis had previously called for this Wednesday to be an international day of prayer for peace in Ukraine, asking that political leaders may make decisions “at the service of human brotherhood rather than partisan interests.”
