Pope Francis' outspoken concern for migrants has often included advocating for humane living conditions for refugees forced to flee their home.
POPE FRANCIS
'How many inhumane conditions there are! How many hotspots where migrants and refugees live in borderline conditions, without seeing any solutions on the horizon!'
Now, according to the UN, those conditions are being tested even more, as record low temperatures across the Middle East are challenging displaced families trying to keep warm in tents and makeshift shelters.
-'Water is coming in on me and my children.'
The UN refugee agency estimates there are more than 10 million internally displaced persons throughout Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and at camps like this one in Jordan.
-'The caravans are like iceboxes, like a freezer. The moment I turn off the heater, it becomes a freezer. Is there a greater suffering than this?'
Over 3.3 million refugees are in need of winter assistance to help them cope with the harsh weather. For some of them, this will be the 11th consecutive winter in displacement.
