Pope Francis met with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith headed by Spanish Cardinal Luis Ladaria.
CARD. LUIS LADARIA
Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
'(We are pleased) to briefly present to you the main topics that have addressed during these days of intense work.'
The Pope recalled that the dicastery is charged with judging priests and professed religious accused of abuse.
POPE FRANCIS
'The Church, with God's help, is steadfastly pursuing her commitment to bring justice to victims abused by her members, applying the established canonical legislation with special care and rigor. (Judicial action) alone cannot be enough to curb this phenomenon, but it is a necessary step to restore justice, repair the scandal and amend the offender.'
During their meeting, it was announced that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has begun preparing a document on human dignity.
POPE FRANCIS
'The dignity of every human being has an intrinsic character and is valid from the moment of conception until natural death.'
The Pope also recalled that the congregation is also meant to promote and defend the faith, for without faith, the Church would be just a simple humanitarian organization.
