This family traveled all the way from Colombia to Europe. They arrived in Rome on Tuesday, but attending the Pope's General Audience wasn't on their itinerary.
FIORELLA FILOMENA
“A day before, they told us that the audiences are on Wednesdays. And we said, 'We didn't know. We have to go.' We didn't even have tickets. We got in line and waited. It was a wonderful experience, from the moment the Pope appeared. Listening to the Scripture reading in different languages. It was phenomenal.”
Fiorella was the only member of the family who got the chance to shake Pope Francis' hand, and this is how she describes the experience.
FIORELLA FIOLMENA
“I got him to touch my hand, and I got chills. It was a truly incredible experience. I didn't say anything. It was impossible. I was shaking. But just seeing him up close was worth it.”
Her family encourages pilgrims traveling to Rome to attend an Audience and visit the Vatican. They say it's a unique opportunity to experience the faith in a new way.
