Pope Francis resumes an important tradition that was put on hold last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Sunday, Jan. 9, the Pope will baptize a number of newborns, most of them children of Vatican employees, in the Sistine Chapel, a popular tourist destination and home to Michelangelo's stunning frescoes.
During his homily, the Pope usually addresses the families of the newly baptized, reminding parents of the importance of transmitting the faith to their children with their own faith life.
POPE FRANCIS
January 13, 2019
'That (children) may see the love between spouses, that they may see peace at home, that they may see that Jesus is there. And allow me this word of advice—forgive me, but I offer you this advice—never quarrel in front of the children. Never.'
The morning celebration takes place on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. After Mass, the Pope will pray the Angelus with pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square, as he does every Sunday at noon.
