Pope Francis met with a group of French entrepreneurs at the Vatican. They are in Rome for a pilgrimage focusing on working for the common good.
Pope Francis reminded them of their responsibility as Christian business leaders to balance authority and service.
POPE FRANCIS
The mission of the Christian manager resembles, in many ways, that of a shepherd, of which Jesus is an example, and who knows how to walk in front of the flock to show the way; knows how to be among (the sheep) to see what happens; and knows how to walk behind, to make sure no one is left behind.
The Pope explained that although business leaders are often called to make important decisions for their organizations, it is important that they share authority with employees at every level.
POPE FRANCIS
The Christian manager is called to consider attentively the role assigned to every person in his or her company, including those whose tasks seem to be of minor importance. Because each one is important in God's eyes.
Pope Francis acknowledged that it is demanding and difficult to live out the Gospel in the competitive world of business. And he encouraged entrepreneurs to persevere and ask God to guide their decision-making.
