Since late June, violence in Western South Sudan has displaced nearly 80,000 people from their homes. They are left with no access to clean water, food, hospitals, or education.

A delegation of bishops from the South Sudan Council of Churches, comprised of the Catholic, Episcopal, and Presbyterian Churches, visited a community of internally displaced people who were forced to flee violence.

BP. ARKANJELO WANI LEMI
'We have come that we may restore hope because people in this kind of situation who have left their homes, hopelessness seems to be looming, and so we have come to encourage them, and we have come to pray with them.'

Since the civil war began in 2013, over 2 million people have been displaced from their homes throughout South Sudan.

Pope Francis has repeatedly advocated for peace in the country.

POPE FRANCIS
'I ask you as a brother, stay in peace.'

He was supposed to visit the country in 2020 with other Christian leaders, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, Rev. Martin Fair, but the trip was postponed due to the pandemic.

Collaboration between South Sudan's various Christian communities have played a key role in the ongoing peace process, and continues to console those afflicted by violence and loss throughout the country.
