The seminarians of the Fraternity of St. Peter Wigratzbad have released their first album in collaboration with De Montfort Music. It's called “Sancta Nox: Christmas Matins from Bavaria.”
Manuel Vaz Guedes, a tenor in the seminary's choir, says their goal was simply to share the Christmas message of peace and joy through the matins, which are part of the Divine Office of the Catholic Church.

“Matins for us is the very beginning of Christmas because it precedes immediately the night Christmas Mass. And it's an invitation to adore the Christ Child in all his innocence. It's a unique moment for us and one of the most beautiful moments of the liturgical year.”
The album was recorded in Germany, at the St. Magnus Abbey, which was founded in the 12th century. It was produced by Grammy award-winning music producer, Christopher Alder.

“'Sancta Nox' from the seminarians of the Fraternity of St. Peter can be enjoyed by anyone who loves music and the Hours. The music itself can be enjoyed by a wide audience, from listeners who prefer traditional and contemporary in sacred music, or simply music that stirs the emotions and inspires some kind of peace.”
The album includes some of the choir's own arrangements, which Manuel explains makes it a very personal introduction to the seminarians' way of life. For the schola of the Seminary of the Fraternity of St. Peter, “Sancta Nox” is an expression of the truth, goodness and beauty of that holy Christmas night.
