Just days before Christmas, pilgrims filled St. Peter's Square from around the world to see the Pope.
After the Angelus, Pope Francis prayed for the more than 200 people who have died after a powerful typhoon hit the Philippines.
POPE FRANCIS
'May the Holy Child bring consolation and hope to the families most in need; and may he inspire practical ways of helping in all of us. The first concrete way is prayer, and other assistance.'
The Pope also greeted the large number of Peruvians gathered in St. Peter's Square.
POPE FRANCIS
'In particular, I greet the Peruvian community of Rome and its folklore group gathered here for the celebration in honor of the “Andean Child Jesus” of Chopcca, the place of origin of the Nativity display set up in this Square. Thank you!'
The Angelus came only two days after Pope Francis' birthday. After saying goodbye, a band in St. Peter's Square played him “Happy Birthday.”
POPE FRANCIS
'Have a good lunch, and until next time. And now the band, play something nice! '
