Routines and daily obligations make it almost impossible to stop and disconnect. Since 2018, “Hallow” has been helping people pray and meditate in five to 30-minute sessions. This app for mobile devices follows the structure of other meditation and relaxation initiatives, but with the Bible as the foundation.

“Let us pray. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

“I loved the model of picking a session, choosing a length, plugging in your headphones, closing your eyes and being guided through this technique of meditation and learning this type of technique. But every time I would meditate, my mind would feel oddly pulled toward something spiritual, something Christian.”

When he started designing this app, Alex Jones realized that many young Christians were searching for content related to their faith, but they were struggling to find a clean, modern and easy-to-use resource. So he decided to create the content so many young people were looking for.

“So they thought, you know, 'Hey, this is an old app, so I don't even want to check it out.' And so it stopped them at the beginning from exploring the rich beauty that the Church had to offer.”

The app offers different prayer plans. There are daily prayers, prayers to say as a community, and prayers split up by themes. More then 1.5 million users have downloaded the app, and completed over 25 million prayers since the app was released. And the $50 million the app has raised in 2021 will allow developers to produce content in other languages.

“I think folks really are hungry for the spirituality, the peace and the comfort that our faith can bring, that Christ can bring, through just sitting in silence with Him for four, 10 minutes in the morning or five minutes or a little rosary at the end of the day or a little prayer in the middle of the day or whatever.”

It's an initiative to help cultivate the habit of praying throughout the day and to disconnect, even for just five minutes, from the hectic pace of daily life.
