For Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the future of the Church depends on whether or not it manages to return to its missionary spirit.

It's living out that missionary pastoral conversion that the Pope indicates: searching not by closing ourselves off but by opening ourselves.

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi suggests following the Pope's recommendation to foster hope in the present.

POPE FRANCIS
We are asked to nurture tomorrow’s hope by healing today’s pain. The two are linked: if you do not work to heal today’s pain, it will be hard to have hope for tomorrow.

The Archbishop of Bologna hopes Christians will again find in the Gospel the strength to live out their faith without isolating themselves from the rest of the world. He says this is the point on which the Pope insists.

He is working so the community and Christians do not isolate themselves from the world, but rather live with the beauty, with the power of the Gospel, of the spirit of the Gospel, in a moment as difficult as the one the world is currently in.

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi does not ignore today's global challenges. In fact, he participated in the difficult peace talks in Mozambique along with the Community of Sant'Egidio. Pope Francis made him a cardinal in October of 2019.
