Every year the Vatican organizes a special Christmas concert which has featured artists such as Lionel Richie, Leo Rojas and Susan Boyle.
This year, the winners of an amateur Christmas music contest hosted by the Vatican will also perform. The contestents and organizers even had an audience with the Pope.
-'Holy Father, I am pleased to introduce you to the participants and organizers of the Christmas Contest.'
Pope Francis told them that Christmas is something to be celebrated even in the midst of a pandemic.
POPE FRANCIS
'The feast of the Birth of Christ is not out of tune with the challenge we are living through, because it is the feast of compassion, the feast of tenderness.'
The Pope said that this spirit of compassion permeates many of the Vatican's initiatives such as the Global Compact on Education.
POPE FRANCIS
'And in this spirit we have given life to the Global Compact on Education, a broad educational alliance “to form mature people, capable of overcoming divisions and opposition, and rebuilding the fabric of relationships for a more fraternal humanity.” Achieving these goals requires courage. We need courage and creativity.'
The organizers of the Vatican Christmas concert have not yet revealed all of the artists who will perform at this year's concert, but successful artists from the 90's such as Anggun, Shaggy and Ian Anderson have already been confirmed.
