Pope Francis recalled that World Youth Day was being celebrated at the local level on Sunday. It is usually celebrated on Palm Sunday, but this year it was moved to the Feast of Christ the King so as to not draw attention away from Holy Week.

That’s why these two young people accompanied the Pope during the Angelus.

-'Happy World Youth Day to you all.'

POPE FRANCIS
'But say something creative.'

-'We are witnesses to the fact that believing in Jesus is precious.'

POPE FRANCIS
'Wow! This is very beautiful! Thank you.'

On this day dedicated to the youth, Pope Francis said he wants young people to feel like active participants within the Church.

POPE FRANCIS
'I hope that all young people around the world can feel like a living part of the Church, protagonists of its mission. Thank you for being here. And do not forget that to rule is to serve. What was it? To rule is to serve. All together: To rule is to serve.'

After praying the Angelus, Pope Francis asked to pray for fishermen, so that they can have better working conditions.

He also noted that Sunday was designated by the UN to remember victims of traffic accidents.

The Pope said that the day before, in Poland, Fr. Jan Macha had been beatified. The priest was killed by Nazis in 1942.

-'Let’s hear it for the new Blessed.'
