Pope Francis met with the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, at the Vatican. Their meeting lasted about 30 minutes.
The president and first lady gave the Pope a copy of an ancient Croatian Missal written in Glagolitic script, the oldest known Slavic alphabet.
Pope Francis gave them this mosaic of a grape harvest.
“The fruit of the vine and the work of man become for the drink of salvation.”
He also gave him this year's message of peace and his document on human fraternity, as well as the book on the Urbi et Orbi blessing that he gave during the pandemic.
The two discussed existing bilateral relations between their respective states, and the ongoing conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina before saying goodbye.
