Pope Francis was greeted by impromptu singing when he surprised a group of religious sisters of the Order of Saint Clare with a visit during his trip to Assisi.

We welcome this visit of the Holy Father as a visit from the Lord. We feel truly seen, with a free and infinite benevolence imparted from God through you.

He prayed with the sisters before asking them to keep him in their prayers, and even got some laughs.

-'Pray for me... not against me!'

Pope Francis then wrote them a message in Italian, which reads: “'I am afraid when the Lord passes,' said Saint Augustine. Be attentive to not let him pass without meeting him. Be alert with your mind, with your heart, and with your hands.”

The Pope traveled to Assisi to pray with poor people gathered from throughout Europe to mark World Day of the Poor, and made his way back to Rome shortly after.
