The Vatican has asked that the final decisions of COP26, the UN climate change conference, “may be inspired by a genuine sense of responsibility towards present and future generations.”
A few hours before the event's conclusion, the Vatican asks participants to remember “the human face of the climate crisis, its impact on the poorest and those who have done the least to cause it.” It's one of the Pope's most urgent requests.
POPE FRANCIS

One of the scientists, at the meeting we had with them and with religious leaders, this scientist said, “My niece, who was born last month, will have to live in an uninhabitable world if we do not change things.”
The Vatican also urges developed countries to take the lead in closing the gaps “in the fields of mitigation, adaptation and financing” that have emerged during the conference.
The communiqué reiterates Pope Francis' appeal to not waste this occasion to “respond to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.”
