This group did not go unnoticed at the General Audience.
But don't be fooled by their colors. They aren't from Italy nor Mexico. They're German. From Freising, north of Munich.
They belong to an association of Catholic students founded in 1922. It's called Agilolfia Freising-Weihenstephan. They were able to see the Pope up close at the end of the Audience.
JAKOB BERG
“The Catholic religion is one of the main points in our tradition and it was a very special moment for us to come here to Rome and to see our Pope, standing one meter away from us. It was a very special moment.”
The other three pillars of this Catholic university association are science, country and friendship. The group has a special anniversary coming up in 2022.
JAKOB BERG
“It was a heart-warming moment, very special for us, because next year we have our 100th anniversary, and to celebrate the first step in this anniversary we made a journey to Rome.”
It's common to see groups wearing traditional outfits at the Pope's General Audiences. Many choose to celebrate special occasions this way because they unite tradition and faith in a symbolic place like Rome.
