Entering the seminary was no easy decision for Javier Peño, but he remembers that the Way of St. James helped him take that step.
He says the route to Compostela can be of tremendous spiritual help, and to help others see its value, he penned the book, “The Way of St. James: An Encounter with God.”

“Basically what I wanted to do with this book is show people that everything along the Way of St. James points to God. What happens is that we have to learn how to see that. We have to interpret things.”
Javier makes a pilgrimage to Santiago whenever he can. He's been doing so for 10 years. His book is a combination of his own experiences and the history of “El Camino.”

Author, “El Camino de Santiago: un encuentro con Dios”
“Knowing our own history is knowing our own identity. By getting to know the history of the Way of St. James, by learning about the legends of the Way, the motivations that have led to the Camino, well, we realize that this is a very privileged place where everything points to God.”
Now that the restrictions set in place because of the pandemic are easing and the number of pilgrims at the Way of St. James is increasing, Javier Peño hopes his book will be of help to others. It's especially appropriate, since the Pope has extended the Year of Compostela to the end of 2022.
