Pope Francis will celebrate Mass on All Souls' Day at the French military cemetery in Rome.

It will take place on Nov. 2 at 11 a.m.

It will be the second time Pope Francis celebrates Mass for the deceased in a military cemetery. In 2017, he celebrated Mass at the American cemetery in the town of Nettuno, near Rome.

The French cemetery was built by the Italian government for French soldiers who fought against Nazi and Fascist troops between 1943 and 1944.

One thousand eight hundred eighty-eight fallen soldiers are buried there, many of them of Moroccan origin. They were the so-called “Goumiers,” African soldiers who enlisted in the French army. In fact, some of these tombs can be recognized by the Islamic half-moons on their headstones.
