Improved technology has brought people closer together...
... but it has opened the door to other problems, including the 4 sins of communication, laid out by the Pope.
They are making disinformation, spreading fake news, hurting the reputation of others, and contributing to scandals.
Journalist Ary Waldir Ramos reflects on this situation in his book “Be authentic.” As a Vatican journalist, he proposes two antidotes that every communicator should have: to know how to listen and to go deeper.

'If we engage with others, if we communicate with others, we realize that communication is dynamic. It's a process, it's looking each other in the eye. It's understanding the other, understanding the diversity, the differences of others.'
In his book, Ary Ramos analyzes the Pope's style of communication. He says Pope Francis can communicate with very different types of people because he has mastered an essential skill: listening.

'We are instruments. We are at the service of a message that has to reach the public and, of course, seekers of truth.'
The book's presentation in Rome was an opportunity to reflect on the keys of quality communication in the midst a high-speed world.
Cardinal Mario Grech spoke at the event and underscored the importance of listening, especially in times of crisis.

'A current example is the serious abuse crisis (of all kinds of abuse, not only of minors), where often another sort of abuse is added to the physical and psychological abuse, another suffering, sometimes greater and more painful: words that hurt rather than heal, words that have not listened. For many victims of various forms of abuse, this is an even greater evil.'
The book stresses that listening is vital for journalism to be an act of service. An idea echoed by Eva Fernández, journalist with the Spanish radio station COPE. She stressed that this journalistic dedication is essential to communicate with sincerity and passion.
