'And the next WYD will be in Portugal.'
It's been more than two years since Card. Kevin Farrell announced World Youth Day Lisbon. It was scheduled for August 2022, but the pandemic pushed it back to 2023.
The Vatican has announced the exact dates: Aug. 1 to 6. The hope is that by then people will be able to travel freely to reach Lisbon.
There are more than 400 volunteers helping prepare the event. The symbols of the upcoming WYD are the pilgrim cross and the icon of Our Lady known as Salus Populi Romani.
This international event was established by Pope John Paul II. The first one was held in 1986.
