The Vatican continued its trial against former cardinal, Angelo Becciu, and nine other people accused of financial crimes related to the Vatican Secretariat of State.
The prosecution called for a “resetting” of the trial and said it was willing to repeat interrogations with witnesses in the presence of their lawyers.
A key element of the trial is a video recording of the interrogation of Msgr. Alberto Perlasca. He was responsible for the Secretariat of State's investments and went from being a suspect to a protected witness after he reconstructed the events surrounding the irregular management of reserve funds.
The prosecution does not want to submit the video because it wants to protect the confidentiality of the interrogation. But that prevents the defense from building up its case.
The president of the court said he would decide in the next 24 hours whether to require them to hand over the video or allow them to start the entire trial from scratch.
