During his General Audience, the Pope denounced insecurity in northern Nigeria.

This past Sunday, groups of armed bandits killed at least 34 people in the country's northeastern region, where the number of abductions and incidents of violence are on the rise.

POPE FRANCIS
'I pray for the people who have died, for the injured and for the entire Nigerian population. I hope that the country always guarantees the safety of all its citizens.'

During his catechesis, Pope Francis also explained the doctrine of justification.

POPE FRANCIS
“Father, I am just because I follow all the commandments, and...” But that's not where justification comes from. You receive it before. Someone has justified you. Someone has made you just before God. “Yes, but I am a sinner.” Yes, you are just, but a sinner. But fundamentally, you are just. Who has made you just? Jesus Christ. This is justification.

The Pope explained that the doctrine of justification does not make good and bad deeds irrelevant, but teaches that God is always willing to forgive those who seek forgiveness.

He described it as a collaboration with God: by completing works of mercy, we can demonstrate the greatness of God's love.
