As of October 1, visitors will have to present a Covid-19 Green Pass showing proof of vaccination, recovery from Coronavirus, or a negative test to enter the Vatican.
The new rule is not limited to tourists, but applies to all Vatican residents and employees as well.
It specifies that those coming to the Vatican for a liturgical celebration, such as to attend Mass in St. Peter's Basilica or the Pope's General Audience, are considered an exception to the rule for the duration of the ceremony.
Social distancing and mask-wearing rules will remain in effect for celebrations open to the public at the Vatican, as has been the case for each Mass celebrated in St. Peter's Basilica in recent months.
