A small delegation of bishops, diplomats and an honor guard waited for the Pope on the tarmac at the Bratislava International Airport.
Pope Francis arrived after a final private meeting with the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová in the airport's VIP lounge. The President walked the Pope to the airplane. They appeared to be having a friendly conversation.
Pope Francis said goodbye to those present before boarding the plane for the two-hour flight back to Rome. Immediately after departing, the Pope had a telegram message sent to President Čaputová, thanking her and the Slovak people for their “generous welcome and hospitality.”
