Pope Francis met with a delegation of politicians from the Leaders for Peace Foundation, which is led by the former Prime Minister of France, Jean-Pierre Raffarin.
This organization is made up of politicians dedicated to promoting dialogue. Some of its members, who did not travel to the Vatican, are U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and the former UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.
Pope Francis reminded them that the pandemic has revealed a need for good politics capable of promoting the common good and not just the interests of a select few.
He also asked them to act quickly.
POPE FRANCIS
“The challenge is helping government leaders and citizens address difficulties as opportunities. Let us not limit ourselves to theoretical discussions. Let us touch wounds. Let us touch those who suffer the damages.”
The Pope spoke of the need to promote a culture of change on two levels: within the entire population, to stop behaviors that reinforce a throwaway culture; and on the political level, to promote dialogue among institutions.
