The new British Ambassador to the Holy See, Mr. Christopher Trott, presented his credentials to Pope Francis at the Vatican.
“It is an honor for me to present my letter of credence, on behalf of Her Majesty. She sends her best wishes.”
Pope Francis gave the ambassador a collection of documents from his pontificate.
“This is a library.”
The ambassador was accompanied by his family. The Pope gave each of them a medal commemorating nine years of his pontificate.
A British diplomat since 1991, Mr. Trott was the ambassador to Senegal and later, to South Sudan. He has worked in Myanmar and Afghanistan, among other countries, and is an expert in post-conflict stabilization.
In a statement released by the British Embassy to the Holy See, Ambassador Trott expressed that he is looking forward to “work together with the Holy See and the Catholic networks to make a difference to the issues which concern us, from poverty to climate change, conflict prevention, international development, and freedom of religion and belief.”
