The Pope met with representatives of the Arché Foundation. The organization was founded by a priest and offers temporary housing to single mothers in Italy.
Some of these mothers were in the front row with their children. The Pope wanted to hear their stories and see their faces.
POPE FRANCIS
“The faces of those mothers and those children you welcomed and helped free from the chains of violence and mistreatment. Also migrant women who have lived through dramatic experiences.”
Pope Francis thanked the Arché Foundation for not merely offering housing to the poor, but for “being” with the poor.
POPE FRANCIS
“May it be a place that lives in God's style, that is, with closeness, tenderness and compassion. And may the structure always be at the service of people, and not the other way around.”
The Arché Foundation has been active in Italy for 30 years.
It was established to help mothers and their children affected by AIDS. The foundation today has three homes. The latest was opened in Rome.
