This is the official image of the 10th World Meeting of Families, which will take place in Rome from June 22-26, 2022.
The image was painted by artist and theologian, Fr. Marko Ivan Rupnik, who explains his work.

“The first thing that came to my mind and heart was the great father Jacob of Sarug, who shows the great mystery that Moses veils. I'm talking about man and woman, who will be united as one, as an image of Christ and humanity, of Christ and the Church.”
For Christians, explains Fr. Rupnik, the family is the expression of a sacrament, which is marriage. That's why he says he chose the episode of the Wedding at Cana as the background image.
The image also shows St. Paul pouring the wine, which Fr. Rupnik explains symbolizes 'the love that embraces the meaning of human existence.'

“St. Paul offers this wine because he's the one who unveils the mystery in Ephesians 5 and exclaims: This mystery is great. And he was talking about Christ and the Church, which is the foundation of man and woman, of marriage.”
The painting is titled “This mystery is great.” It is the third symbol, after the prayer and the logo, to be published as a resource for families to prepare for the World Meeting of Families in 2022.
