July 19 marked the fifth anniversary of the death of Carmen Hernández, co-founder of the Neocatechumenal Way together with Kiko Argüello.
In the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid, Cardinal Carlos Osoro has offered a Mass in her memory.
CARD. CARLOS OSORO
Archbishop of Madrid
'Carmen would urge us in different ways to give a face to Christ with our lives. We should all ask ourselves this question today: What is the will of God in my life and for my life?”
At the end of the celebration, the Cardinal was presented with a 'Supplex Libellus', or written request. It is a formal request to open the cause of beatification of Carmen Hernández.
CARLOS METOLA
Diocesan postulator
'I am handing you the libellus request, asking you to kindly initiate the preliminary investigations and consultations that will allow us to discern the opportunity to commence the process of examining the life, virtues and reputation of sanctity of the Servant of God Maria del Carmen Hernández Barrera'.
To submit this request, more than 16,000 pages of personal writings and catechesis of Carmen Hernández were collected.
Devotion to her has led the Neocatechumenal Way to collect all possible documentation about her life. In fact, they have already announced the publication of the first official biography of the Way's co-founder. To date, her tomb in Madrid has received more than 40,000 visits.
