Andrea Depalo has been in a wheelchair his whole life. That's what inspired the Italian inventor to create Avanchair to help disabled persons like himself move in and out of their wheelchairs without the assistance of others.
ANDREA DEPALO
Founder, Avanchair
'We wanted to create a wheelchair that leads people forward, being more independent, being more included in society, being able to do the most significant tasks of daily life alone, without depending on someone else'.
People with disabilities often rely on others to perform simple daily tasks. A fact that Avanchair is trying to change through its innovative design, which incorporates both lateral and vertical movement.
ANDREA DEPALO
Founder, Avanchair
“55% of people with disabilities that use a wheelchair are in need of help when trying to perform an independent transfer. That means that they will need a caregiver or another person that will help them to move into or out of the wheelchair.”
Avanchair is a project supported by the Italian-based multinational energy company, Enel, and Banco BPM. A type of collaboration which Andrea says is important for building an inclusive society.
ANDREA DEPALO
Founder, Avanchair
'I think that if we work together, we can use our diversity as an opportunity to grow and to have a different vision of the world's problems and activities to make the world a better place'.
With his latest invention, Andrea is helping people with disabilities lead more autonomous lives, and inspiring them to find solutions for the challenges they face every day.
