Tuesday's medical report is very reassuring.

It says the Pope got a good night's rest and that in the morning after breakfast, he read the news and walked around.

The conclusion is that Pope Francis is recovering well, which the post-surgery follow-up exams confirm.

According to the Italian news outlet “Il Corriere della Sera,” the surgery was more complicated than expected, which is why it lasted three hours. It began with a minimally invasive technique, but the surgeons then decided to take a more direct approach.

The surgery on Sunday took place without a lot of fuss. Pope Francis will remain in the hospital until Sunday or Monday, which means he will likely pray the Angelus on Sunday from the window of his room in the Gemelli Hospital.

Barring any unexpected developments, the next medical update will be published in 24 hours.
