Pope Francis is recovering from intestinal surgery here, at Gemelli hospital, following an operation in which 10 doctors intervened.
The Italian press reports that he was in the operating room for about three hours. The Pope is estimated to spend five days recovering in the hospital, and he plans to pray the Angelus in St. Peter's Square next Sunday.
Pope Francis is expected to be recovering in a suite on the tenth floor of Rome's Gemelli hospital, where Pope John Paul II also once stayed.
Shortly before midnight on Sunday, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis “reacted well” to the operation.
Sources close to him say the Pope is in good spirits.
