Pope Francis welcomed the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, to the Vatican.
They spoke about Pope Francis' visit to Iraq earlier this year, as well as the importance of promoting national dialogue. They also discussed the country's reconstruction process and the importance of adopting legal measures to protect Iraqi Christians.
During his visit, the Prime Minister gave the Pope an image of Leonardo Da Vinci's “Last Supper.” The leather work was made by a woman who was a victim of ISIS.
Then he gave the Pope a cross made from the wood of a larger cross from a church that was destroyed by ISIS.
Pope Francis, in turn, gave the Prime Minister a bronze sculpture with the inscription “Be Messengers of Peace.”
“Thank you very much.”
And this year's message for peace.
“Today I signed it for you.”
And of course, the most important texts from his pontificate, including the “Laudato si'” and the “Fratelli Tutti” encyclicals.
“Thank God, we are all brothers.”
Their meeting concluded with this group photo.
